Structural Calculations

Material amounts were found through the building’s website, as well as additional resources.  The floor areas were taken from the Architectural Calculation page of this site.  The stadium seats 90000 people during events.  Assuming an additional 5000 people for support, the total occupancy of the stadium can be taken as 95000 persons.  Wind and Snow loads are taken directly from UK design codes.  All reference locations can be found in the reference page.

Some numbers are assumed, based on extensive research and comparisons with other like structures.

Dead Loads:

Materials – Steel = 103000CF * 4PCF = 50706kips

Concrete = 3178320CF * 145PCF = 460856 kips

Partition – (150600SF * 5PSF *5 Floors) + (5545000SF * 5PSF) = 9310 kips

Equipment – Same as Partition = 9310 kips

Ceiling – (150600SF * 2PSF *5 Floors) + (5545000SF * 2PSF) = 3724 kips

Structure weight = Materials + Partition + Equipment + Ceiling = 533906 kips

Load from seats – 90000 seats * 5 lbs per seat (assumed for plastic seating) = 450 kips

Total weight = 534356 kips

Live Load:

People – (90000(spectators) + 5000(support)) * 190 lbs(average) = 18050 kips

Snow – (600N/m2) – 12.5PSF * 430556SF = 5380 kips

Wind – 20m/s is 40.74mph = 5.12 psf using 0.00256(mph)2 – 5.12PSF * 156000SF (largest elevation) = 800 kips

Total Load:

Dead Load – 534356 kips

Live Load – 18050 kips + 5380kips = 23430 kips

Lateral Load – 800 kips

Total Vertical Load – (Dead Load + Live Load)/Footprint – (534356 kips + 23430 kips)* (1000 lbs/kip)/(5545000SF) = 5.01 PSF
